weekend renewal

Lighthouse - ShelliBourque

You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden.  No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. [Matthew 5:1HCSB]

There are many in this world who desperately need your gospel message and your godly influence. They need the light of truth. Light casts out darkness. Even the smallest of lights is still light that overcomes darkness. And you are the light of the world! It doesn’t say be the light. You are the light. As a Spirit-filled believer, you don’t have to work to be the light. You don’t have to put on your game-face, your good-girl mask, or your fake Sunday smile, as if that is going to make a difference for Christ. No, if Christ is in you, you already are the light.

But you have to let your light be seen. As you walk in the Spirit, as you grow in grace, your light will shine. Don’t be afraid to let it shine. Don’t let the pressure of the world cause you to want to hide under a basket. Let the world see your godly character and your good works; let them hear your message of grace. Let them see and give glory to the Father.

May you let your light shine before those you will encounter this weekend: family, friends, neighbors, strangers. Let them see the light of Christ in you.

Here are a couple good links, if you have a few moments to read:

The Legacy Box – Perhaps you have a daughter or niece headed off to college. This is a thoughtful gift and the start of a beautiful tradition.

dear daughters (9 questions to ask your fiance) – Not engaged? Don’t let the title keep you from reading. This applies to any young girl who is considering marriage, who is dating, or who will be dating soon. And moms, this is for you, too. Our girls need us to teach them to ask these questions of any boy to whom they want to give their heart.

May your weekend be blessed, my friends.

Shelley, thank you. Needed this. Funny…. our worship leader called and asked if I would read some scripture tomorrow in church. I said yes. He emailed me the passage. It was the one you shared. Matt. 5 …. You are the Light of the World…

    Thanks for the reminder….
