One Thousand Gifts :: When Grief Comes, Gratitude Awaits

It’s been two years since we lost our nephew, Murray. Amazingly, even in grief we can respond to God with gratitude. For we do not grieve as those who have no hope. We know that Murray is more alive in the presence of his Lord and Savior than we are in these earthly tents. There is much to be thankful for as I recall his life as well as his death, and so I add these to my count of One Thousand Gifts.

107. meeting four-year-old Murray in his parent’s van, on a rainy summer day
108. his striking blue eyes and ever-ready smile
109. cheering him on at baseball and football games
110. him being a wonderful big cousin to my children

111. passing into Glory instantly, without suffering
112. a former pastor who just “happened” to be visiting from out-of-state
113. a multitude of condolences
114. the love of his countless friends
115. the stories they shared, the comfort they gave

116. the fervor with which his parents sought the Lord
117. God’s special mercies as He carried them through the darkness
118. the strengthening of their faith
119. their boldness to share the gospel
120. the frequent opportunities for them to do so
121. many seeds that are planted
122. the salvation of family and friends
123. the glory given to God

124. anticipation of joining him in heaven
125. a special portrait

    Shelli,
What a beautiful tribute to Murray. I also remember meeting him when he was ring bearer at your wedding. Through the years I watched him grow into such a fine young man. My prayers are with you and Eric, his parents, grandma B,and Aunt Pam.
