In Which I’m Growing Up

Doogwood 2013-2 - ShelliBourque

From the time I was a young girl, I knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. When college came, I specially chose one that would provide a solid foundation for graduate studies. While attending said college, a certain boy entered my life and made me rethink every career goal I ever had. Then a required class piqued my interest so much I decided to change my major.

The boy became my husband, and the major became a seed that is finally germinating. College became a solid foundation for a life that is nothing like my little girl plans. But, I have no regrets, only gratitude, because little-girl me could not have known how much better this life would be.

From its infancy, this blog has been trying to figure out what it should be when it grows up. It has suffered as many growing pains in its four years as I did in my college years. Several name changes, a half-dozen design changes, never a clear focus.

Perhaps the reason is because I’ve undergone a few growing pains of my own the past four years: working through disappointments, learning to embrace my small-town life, giving up a dream, catching hold of another.

I feel as if I’m finally growing up. More than ever, I understand who I am (my strengths and weaknesses), and I am beginning to understand the calling God has on my life.

Happily, I see a place in that calling for this little ol’ blog. Over the next few days, I’ll be posting more about the thoughts I’ve had and the direction I’m going. I can’t wait to share them with you.

Because it’s about time for this blog to grow up, too.
