If I seek forgiveness, may I first forgive.

If I wish to complain, may my words be silenced.

If I speak words of criticism, may they be of me.

If I speak words of praise, may they be of others.

If I speak a compliment, may it be sincere.

If I am praised in public, may I not repeat it in public.

If I speak of influence, may it be of others’ on me and not mine on them.

If I wish to teach, may I first seek to learn.

If I speak of my sin, may it be to reveal the Savior.

If I am guilty, may I humbly repent.

If I speak, may they be words of grace.

If I boast, may it be in the Lord.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. – Ephesians 4:29
