Do You See It?

Look closely. Do you see it?

It’s the Big Dipper!

It wasn’t hard to capture. Just a little know-how that I got from the Kent Weakley’s Night Photography Class, and the right equipment: tripod and remote shutter release. And of course, patience! (This image took 75 seconds.)

And look what I got when I shot straight up for 195 seconds.

That, my friends, is the movement of the stars in those 195 seconds. Well, actually it’s the movement of the earth – traveling over 1000 miles per hour. Magnificent!

He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. – Psalm 146:5-6

I plan to try star shooting again with some different settings and hope to capture a longer shot to see the movement of the stars even more. All I need is a place with really low light pollution and energy to stay up late!

In hope,
Shelli

Sweet Shot Day

Among a number of  ”wannabe” wishes, I would love to be a photographer. Not a pro. Just a decent amateur. This year
I’m am being more intentional about making that a reality. Linking up Darcy is one way to share my photomaking journey.

  1. Shell, beautifully done. Great images and once you start thinking about the universe and everything, well, it just becomes that much more interesting. 🙂

  6. Oh I wish you were with us! We are at the lake under the BIG Texas sky and love star gazing at night. Littlest (4) announced one evening, “Look Mom! There’s the Big Dip.” I need to take Kent’s Night Class so I can try to capture the beauty God spreads before us each evening. Thank you for sharing this.
