Be Still My Flower-loving Heart

When your birthday falls during the week, in the midst of work and school and life that never stops, it can be hard to make the day special.

Then along comes the unexpected, the unusual, and it makes all the difference. Suddenly you feel loved, giddy with delight, and full of gratitude.

Then you take no less than one hundred thirty pictures to remember the moment. Oh, sorry. You don’t get shutter happy? I guess only I do such silly things. ((blush))

Perhaps I go a little crazy with the camera, but it’s not crazy to count the gifts: #1345 – 1371

  • a special delivery
  • my man, for knowing just how to show his love
  • the cutest floral birthday cake

  • the carnations and daisies

  • the sweet swirled candles

  • the gingham bows

  • the tulle skirt

  • the delight it gave for many days
  • oodles of birthday wishes from family and friends
  • a change in work responsibilities that is so refreshing
  • the pup begging for evening walks
  • discovering the fall marching band schedule posted online – oh, how the planner in me loves this
  • warm, summery days
  • all the windows open
  • cleaning chores complete by mid-morning
  • lots of time for fun
  • a trip to the nursery for annuals
  • bringing extra color to our yard
  • dreaming up garden plans – as in a real garden. I don’t know what has gotten into us!
  • burgers on the grill
  • a trip for ice cream
  • milkshakes

  • a treat for the pup, too

  • playing Frisbee
  • reading on the patio
  • cinnamon swirl toast
  • the sounds of summer – birds, lawn mowers, children frolicking about

Have you started the crazy, delight-filled practice of counting the gifts?

In hope,
Shelli

  1. What a darling cake! I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one like that. What a sweet husband you have. I’m also so impressed with your photography. Great shots!

    • Thanks, Stef! Your compliment on my photography means a lot coming from you! 🙂

  2. Shelli, How did you get the Instagram feed at the bottom of your blog? That is neat!

    • I used a WordPress widget, but I found this – http://snapwidget.com/ – that will work in Blogger. Just fill in the form and it will give you the HTML code. Then you add an HTML/JavaScript gadget on your blog layout page and paste the code. I tested it and it worked like a charm!
