A Change of Taste

So, here I am, at my new blog home on WordPress. I am thrilled!

It’s been a very busy week, spent editing a whole bunch of files to customize the theme I chose. I had to learn a lot of new things, such as how to change .php and .css files. Ha! A week ago, I didn’t even know what a .php file was! In non-techy speak (because I am totally not THAT techy), I think the .php file is the motor that runs a website. I came to this conclusion after seeing the header before the first line of code: Start the engine. I got such a kick out of that!

Once I decided to make the move, one of the hardest things I had to do was to decide how to decorate it. After twelve years in our real home, we’ve slowly been redecorating it. And I find that while I once gravitated toward cool and refreshing colors, I am now drawn to warm and inviting colors. So, it is no coincidence that my new blog home reflects that same change of taste.

Some people like coffee; there are coffee cups in oodles of blog headers. I like flowers. Floral prints can be found in every room of my house (well, except my son’s room). So I knew I wanted a flower in my header. And once I found the iris image and the theme with the scroll-work background, I was smitten. In fact, shortly after discovering the theme and the iris and working on coordinating colors, I was in my bedroom and glanced at my bed.

And here’s the new header:

Coincidence? I think not!

And now for a little stroll down blog memory lane.

My first header was designed by Fabulous K Creative. She did a fabulous job; I just quickly tired of the scrapbook look. {But I do miss the red; red is my favorite color. And other than the black, the colors in this header go great with my living room.}

I couldn’t afford to pay for changes, so I dabbled in designing my own headers. These next two each lasted only a few weeks.

And finally, I settled with this for a while:

Always the same fonts. Always flowers! It’s just who I am.

Even if I waffle between cool and refreshing, and warm and inviting.

So, welcome to my new home. I hope you’ll feel comfortable here.

And tell me, have your tastes changed over time? Have home decor ideas made their way into your blog?

In hope,
Shelli

P.S. I was able to import the old blogger comments from way back when, but I have not been able to import the more recent comments from Disqus. Ugh! But, I think you’ll like the simple WordPress comment system. And if you want your picture to show up, just get yourself a Gravatar.

P.P.S. I’ve literally spent hours relinking images and posts. If you see one or two or ten that I missed, please let me know! Thanks!!

I really like the soft look of your new blog. It is welcoming to the reader and pleasing to look at. Not too busy. Just nice.
Hopefully you will be happy with it for a long time.
My own blog is on blogspot and I like the look but I really worked hard at creating a soft place. The only thing I am trying to do now is figure out how to get an email subscription on my blog along with the google reader site. Can’t figure it out. :o(
So many blogs I look at seem overwhelming to me and it makes it hard to read and enjoy them.
blessings to you on your journey.
    Your blog is very nice.

    • Thanks Sharon! Soft is just what I was going for, so your comment means a lot! And you’ve reminded me – I need to set up the email subscription on my blog. 🙂

  2. As I mentioned on FB, it’s beautiful! And I am super impressed at the fact that you did it yourself!!! I also just had to say that we had that same bedding set in the right hand set of pictures you posted for years! I guess we have similar tastes 🙂

    • Thanks Natalie! We must have similar tastes – the warm design of your blog helped my decide that I wanted to go with warmer colors on mine!

  3. It is SO beautiful, Shelli! i also love flowers, especially roses but also other kinds. I really like the muted scrollwork and the shape of the template too!

    • Thanks Michelle. I love the scrollwork, too. I couldn’t believe how well it matched the one above my bed! That was really a bonus with the template. 🙂
