I’ve been ready to read the message that Lysa TerKeurst gives in her newest book, Made to Crave. After spending years on the vicious cycle of weight gain and loss, I finally realized a few months ago that the root of my emotional eating was idolatry . I was making an idol of food by turning to it in times of stress and sadness, instead of turning to God.
I knew that returning to my old methods of weight loss would bring only temporary results. Like a weed that is merely cut down and quickly grows back, my old cravings would soon return and the weight gain would expose my failure once again. I wanted this time to be different; I knew I had to go straight for the root.
God made us capable of cravings so we’d have an unquenchable desire for more of Him, and Him alone. Nothing changes until we make the choice to redirect our misguided cravings to the only one capable of satisfying. (emphasis added)
Made to Crave was written to help us make that choice, to help us dig out the root. Rather than a “how to” diet book, it’s a “want to” Christ-centered book.
Lysa writes like a girlfriend, sharing the hardships and triumphs of her own journey. Her candid approach drew me in immediately:
I am not bouncy perky about giving up two of the greatest delights of my taste buds – Cheez-its and box-mix brownies.
I had to laugh because my taste buds share the same delights. Throughout the book I found myself nodding in understanding over her cravings and predicaments. I was soon thinking, “Lysa gets it. She knows my struggle because she’s lived it herself. If she could do this, I can too!” Lysa writes,
We were made for more than this. More than this failure, more than this cycle, more than being ruled by taste buds. We were made for victory. Sometimes we just have to find our way to that truth.
Perhaps you’re like me and know that the old ways don’t work, but you need some help finding the right way. I think Lysa can lead the way. I really do. I need the mentoring she provides in her book and my copy is already highlighted and post-it tabbed. I know I’ll be referring to again and again.
Admittedly my journey is just beginning and I plan to share more about it and Lysa’s book. I hope to one day be able to testify that Lysa’s message helped break the cycle for me. In the meantime, there are others who can testify exactly to that. I invite you to check out the Made to Crave website. There is a tongue-in-cheek video that will make you grin and say “ouch”, and there are success stories of women just like you and me. I would be delighted if you’d purchase your own copy of Made to Crave so we can encourage one another on to victory. While you’re there, check out the FREE webcasts that begin TONIGHT. I’ll be watching. I hope you will, too!
I am honored to be able to give away one copy of Made to Crave to my readers. Entering is simple:

{Disclosure: I was provided two copies of Made to Crave – one for myself and one to give away; however, the opinions and recommendations are entirely my own. I actually bought the complete Made to Crave Bundle prior to being selected for this giveaway and would have told you all about it anyway. But it IS so much more fun this way! I receive no compensation for purchases from the links on this page, but would receive affiliate compensation for purchases through my Book Store.}
